Scott Cummine began his Strongman career in 2003, at the age of 19 weighing 235lbs. The first competition he entered was the Western Canadian finals where he placed last. Discouraged but still Determined to reach his ultimate goal of competing in the World’s Strongest Man, he began what has now become a decade long endeavour. By 2006 Scott had competed in over 15 competitions and had won the Western Canadian Finals; and also placed fifth at Canada’s Strongest Man which is broadcast on TSN. In 2010 Scott had reached a bodyweight of 295lbs.

He entered the Arnold Classic Strongman competition and placed 9th of 55 international competitors, proving he belonged on the international scene. 2010 was also the beginning of three consecutive third place finishes at Canada’s Strongest Man. All three third place finishes were one spot away from qualifying for World’s Strongest Man. In 2012 Scott competed in his fourth consecutive North Americas Strongest Man. He also became the first person to win Western Canada’s Strongest Man five
times, and had now competed in over 50 strongman competitions. It was also the closest he had been to the qualifying spot for World?s Strongest Man, which has eluded him for a decade.

Training

Monday:

  • Pressing events
  • Giant Dumbell press 120-220lbs
  • Log press 200-400lbs
  • Close grip bench press 225-495lbs

Tuesday:

  • Upper back/grip Day
  • Inverted rows with weighted sandbags 50-200lbs
  • Chin ups 5x10-20 reps
  • Dumbbell rows 120-200lbs 10-100 reps.
  • Thick bar holds 200-400lbs

Wednesday:

  • Foam roll
  • Lacrosse ball
  • Myofacial release
  • Massage (if time allows)

Thursday:

  • Chiropractor and acupuncture
  • Foam roll
  • Lacrosse ball work
  • Myofacial release

Friday:

  • Deadlift/Squat
  • Speed deadlifts with band tension 100-500lbs in bands and 300-600lbs in weight. 5 sets of 3 reps.
  • Squats, 300-700lbs for 3 sets, 10-50 reps.

Saturday:

REST

Sunday:

  • Event training
  • Super yoke 500-1000lbs for 100ft
  • Farmers walk 250-400lbs per hand for 100-200 ft.
  • Atlas stones, 300-425lbs lifted onto 56inch platforms

What are your hobbies (outside of training)?

Reading, mainly sports psychology books. I am also currently reading Finger Prints of the Gods. I also enjoy skiing and camping.

Who is your role model and why?

Žydrūnas Savickas, because he is the definition of mental toughness within the sport of strongman.

What are your words of wisdom for people trying to go Pro?

1.Learn to negate negativity. Anyone who is successful at sport or any worthwhile endeavour must have a positive attitude. There is a direct correlation between positive thinking and positive results in the physical form. 2. It will most likely be the people closest to you that will tell you, you cannot achieve your dream. Mainly because they couldn't achieve theirs or didn't have the guts to try. Don't listen to them.
